New & Re-Thatching
The process of thatching and rethatching is complex. We view the roof as a jigsaw puzzle, carefully considering where to start and how much old thatch to strip before replacing it.

Thatching, ridging, patching and related roof work carried out by RJ Matravers Master Thatcher.
The process of thatching and rethatching is complex. We view the roof as a jigsaw puzzle, carefully considering where to start and how much old thatch to strip before replacing it.
A thatched roof will need a new ridge and patching every 10-12 years, during which the roof is tidied, small repairs are done, moss removed and edges straightened, with netting replaced if required.
During re-thatching we can also fit fire felt or boards and insulation, re-point or repair chimneys, and carry out any required lead work.
